Today in Leinster House: March 2, 2012

It’s the First Friday of the month, which means a special sitting to debate legislation coming from non-government members.

10:30am – Scrap and Precious Metal Dealers Bill 2011 (second stage) – With no Fine Gael or Labour backbenchers yet ready to unveil any legislation of their own, the baton falls to Mattie McGrath, who has put together legislation which would require the dealers of all scrap metals and precious ones (gold, silver and platinum) to log details of all transactions in a bid to stop laundering and the illicit sale of stolen goods. Debate will continue until 1:30pm; if the government opposes the legislation, it will call a vote which will be held on Tuesday.

All of the day’s business can be viewed on our Dáil streams for web and Facebook.
