Today in Leinster House: February 3, 2012

It’s the first Friday sitting of the month, which means it’s time for the monthly session dedicated to back-bench and opposition legislation.

10:30am – Family Home Protection Bill (second stage) – This legislation, put forward by Wicklow independent Stephen Donnelly, would give judges the discretion to block a bank’s application to repossess a home, taking into account factors like the background of a loan and any settlement offered by the borrower. Donnelly acknowledges that the legislation will be voted down by the government when the vote is called, but hopes its provisions will be taken into account in the insolvency legislation currently in the pipeline.

Debate continues until 1:30pm; when the vote is called, it will be taken on Tuesday.
