Today in Leinster House: July 27, 2011

As Madonna, Cliff Richard, Will Smith and Mungo Jerry all said in miscellaneous ways: Holiday. Let’s get to it.

Today in Leinster House: July 26, 2011

They think it’s all over… it’s not quite just yet. The Seanad is getting two longer days of action this week – a chance to flourish while the big boys have gone home – while there’s also a few committees in play, including one meeting in the Dáil chamber itself. So… four months down, one […]

This week in Leinster House: July 5-8, 2011

It’s a four-day week in Leinster House this week – the Seanad is being made to convene on Friday so that it can give its imprimatur to some emergency legislation. The committees make this week difficult to give a proper chart of, but here’s my attempt anyway.

This week in Leinster House: June 21-23, 2011

This week sees the first meetings of most of the Oireachtas committees, who will ceremonially come together to decide on who will take their chairmanships. (This is likely more meaningful for those involved than for the public – a committee chair gets a cool €9,500 a year for their fortnightly input.) Other than that, the […]

This week in Leinster House: June 14-16, 2011

A full week of Dáil and Seanad sittings ahead, supplemented by (one) committee meeting – it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas(!). Realistically, this week will actually have slightly less vigour than some of the preceding committee-free weeks, but there will be some things worth looking out for.

This week in Leinster House: June 7-9, 2011

We’re told that there’ll finally be some news on the committees front this week – at least, that’s what the official sources have said – so we could be looking at a slightly more chocker schedule in the coming weeks. Until then, welcome to the first week of full sittings in both the Dáil and […]

This week in Leinster House: May 24-26, 2011

It’s finally happening: this week we’re getting our second House of the Oireachtas, when the 24th Seanad (complete with the 11 Taoiseach’s nominees) meets for the first time. That could well mean we have committees convening and meeting soon. Tuesday Questions to the Taoiseach at 2:30pm is largely based on the Taoiseach’s meetings with Queen […]

This week in the Dáil: May 17-19, 2011

Hey, guess what – despite Herself coming to visit, there’s a full programme of stuff taking place in the Dáil. Well, I say full programme… Tuesday The week’s business kicks off with Questions to the Taoiseach at 2:30pm, with questions on holding cabinet meetings outside of Dublin and assignment of junior ministries top of the agenda, […]

This week in the Dáil: May 10-12, 2011

With the 24th Seanad still a week away from holding its first session, and with details of the Oireachtas Committees not expected to be announced until some time this week, it’s just the Dáil this week – with most of the business being occupied by statements on the government’s Jobs Budget/Initiative/whatever it’s called. Tuesday The […]

This week in the Dáil: May 3-5, 2011

After all the long, drawn-out hubbub of the Seanad elections, guess what? It’s not sitting this week. Instead, given how we evidently can’t expect our TDs to work a full week after two Bank Holiday weekends, we have a slightly curtailed week – most probably to allow the Senators get settled and to organise the […]
