Today in Leinster House: April 30, 2012
The last day of the month sees the start of another four-day week in the Seanad, which hopes to wrap up the Social Welfare Bill in time for an early signature.
12:00pm – Social Welfare and Pensions Bill 2012 (committee and remaining stages) – With no votes on any amendments last week, it’ll be a division-packed day as members seek to reject certain sections from the Bill – most prominently the one reducing the age after which a child’s parent no longer qualifies for lone parent allowance. The afternoon’s debates include a motion asking the President to sign the legislation before the usual five-day window.
